State of the Union Address - Tuesday, 9pm ET!!!

President Obama's State of the Union address is tomorrow at 9pm ET. Analysts aren't expecting the speech to have much positive impact, as there's little to cling to with regard to "hope of a new beginning or a new spirit in divided Washington". So, it might be more about what he doesn't say that will bring our outlook for 2013 under closer scrutiny.

What is likely to have a bigger impact on the market is the HEAP of economic data this week, starting Wednesday, that will likely get the market hopping, wrapping up on Friday with Empire State Manufacturing Index, TIC long term purchases, Capacity Utilization Rate, Industrial Production, and the Prelim UoM Consumer Sentiment report. (whew!).

Prior to all that, we have unemployment claims on Thursday, and Wednesday is stacked: Core Retail Sales, Retail Sales, Import Prices, Business Inventories, Crude Oil Inventories, and 10-y Bond Auction.

Also, don't forget about troubles in Europe back in news, with EUR gaining strength protests about austerity measure are heating the skillet.  Draghi said if EUR continues to gain strength, monetary policy will likely change and that will impact U.S. exports.

Further, we have some great earnings candidates announcing this week to include: AVP, FOSL, KORS, RAI, GT, BWLD, NILE, RAX, DE, AMAT, CAR, CSCO, MET, TRIP, WFM, GM, PEP, and CPB to name a few.  We will be discussing these candidates + more during ETNtrade's Live Trading Sessions today (Monday, February 11).  But, you have to be a Premium Member to join us.

BBRY "The NEW Research In Motion"

If you haven't already figured it out, Research In Motion changed their trading symbol to BBRY.

Hmm, possibly a little psychology play here, getting rid of the bitter feeling associated with a stock that used to be around $100 that is now in the teens.

This could be a very smart/sneaky move on their part with the new phone hitting the streets... see you later RIMM, BBRY is the New Research In Motion!

Keep it on the radar ETNtrade Members!!!

GOOG & AAPL: How Did We Do?

We invited our trading friends to a free GOOG Earnings Class on Tuesday, and gave them an opportunity to take a trial with ETNtrade which included our Member-Only AAPL Live Trading Session on Wednesday.  So, if you missed it, I am sure you are kicking yourself.  Those that jumped at the opportunity are pretty happy with their $99 investment in the trial.  Have a look at the trades we placed:

GOOG Stock was trading at $703.85 on 1/22:

Buy Weekly 485/490/530/535 RIC for $3.65 Debit
AAPL Stock Trading at $439.88 on 1/25
Total Profit = $1.35 or 37%

Buy Weekly 490/495/525/530 RIC for $4.05 Debit
AAPL Stock Trading at $439.88 on 1/25
Total Profit = $.95 or 23%

Sell Wkly 485/490 Call Spread for $3.15 Credit
AAPL Stock Trading at $439.88 on 1/25
Total Profit = $3.15 or 170%

These 2 trades are still open and looking very good with AAPL at $439 and needing to be below $450 next Friday:

AAPL Stock Trading at $439.88 on 1/25

Gooooo GOOOOOOGLE!!!

Today during our “ETNtrade Introduction” class we focused on Google’s earnings report that is coming out after the close today.  Given all the excitement with FB search engines, AAPL innovation in question, MSFT under serious pressure, and IBM also after the close, we have a stage set for a phenomenal trade!!!  Here’s what we decided to use based on our Technical Analysis, Option Strategy Analysis, and Comparative Analysis:

GOOG trading at $704.46

January Wk4 675/680, 730/735 RIC

Debit = $3.35

Profit Potential = $1.65

Break Evens = 676.65 – 733.35, max profit outside 675 – 735.

Exit = hold to expiration Friday, January 25.

49% Return on Investment Potential...

In short, we think it is highly probably that GOOG will move $30+ based on our analysis, and won’t hit any technical resistance until $750 – 760.  On the downside, it won’t find any solid support until it gets down to $640.  With that in mind, it could potentially move $60 either way without much of a technical fight at all.  Think about that!!!
